Southampton's Inflatable Doll
To many, the coupling of an organisation such as a Students' Union with the words `inflatable-doll give away', would initially provoke imagery far different to what was achieved between Southampton University Students' Union and Penguin Products. If lucky, most of us have managed to see that particular party trick on at least one occasion!
Southampton University Students' Union used Penguin to produce their Fresher's week me-mini doll; a giveaway handed out during the all important first week. The doll was an inflatable version of one of the characters found as part of the Students' Union brand and website (www.susu.org). Watch the video of how we made it!
Vicky McManus, the Students' Union's Marketing Manager was delighted with the product; "Once we came up with the idea, we made initial enquiries and the reaction was that it was possible was great, but would warrant the supply of thousands from a Far East source with high tooling and carriage costs. We needed a supplier who would entertain less than a container load, advise us on design specifications and supply us in time for what was an ever rapidly approaching deadline. Penguin met all of these criteria and being so close to us was a welcome bonus - we could even go and see the dolls being finished in the Penguin factory!" |
